Telling the kids was the worst day of my life. After 20 years of living inauthentically I took the step at age 58 to walk away from my marriage. The truth is, I had stayed in my relationship way too long, a hostage to fear: the fear of loneliness, economic scarcity, and of course the idea that I was breaking up our little family with our two beautiful boys.
I had to dig deep, and I threw myself relentlessly into personal growth and self help. Out of that effort a new me emerged. A happier, more fulfilled and more authentic person than I had every become.
I also attracted a wonderful new relationship with someone who loved me just as I am. No compromises with my own identity.
I know that my previous experiences with my husband were the training ground for what was to come, and I now feel it’s my mission to share my story with other women who are plagued by doubt and low self esteem. Divorce is not for everyone, but I believe all women should learn to claim their authentic identity.
