Gillian Hovell. ‘The Muddy Archaeologist’

Profession
Location

What I'm looking for:

NEW SPEAKING OPPORTUNITIES IN THE UK & ABROAD
I have gained fees of up to £750 for an hour’s talk but I wish to take this further, to new audiences and with a higher fee.
A LITERARY AND MEDIA AGENT to take my newest book (on the archaeology of the Mediterranean) into print and beyond: Covid delayed this and my previously interested agent (who saw TV potential from the book) is retiring. I’d like a real team, to work with me and my career: Let’s take this book through interviews, speaking events and on the media to promote both the book and my expertise.
MORE MEDIA WORK, to share my passion to a wider audience.
I aim to make myself a ‘go to’ ancient historian/archaeologist.

What I can offer:

I offer experience & dedication in presenting academically robust expertise in Ancient History in a fascinating, engaging and accessible manner to inspire audiences that archaeological finds and sites are full of human life and passion.
I’m truly VERSATILE with a track record for sharing ancient history through the media, the written word, online and in person.
As ex-BBC, I remain dedicated to ‘EDUCATE, INFORM AND ENTERTAIN’ with sincerity, a sense of fun and a humane sensitivity for the tragedies.
AIMING HIGH with DEDICATION AND VISION: I created ‘The Muddy Archaeologist’ as a sole freelance despite serious life set-backs & I am proud of the excellent reputation and following I have achieved nationally and internationally.

Personal Bio:

After graduating with 2-1 (Hons) in Latin and Ancient History from Exeter University, I worked in BBC Television and went on to become an award-winning freelance writer, author, public speaker & broadcaster, specialising in archaeology, ancient history & Latin.

I share my passion for ancient history in person, in books & writing, in the field, in the media and on-line.

I lecture for York University, diverse audiences nationally & internationally, and on tours & cruises to international audiences.

I have spoken on TV & Radio (including BBC News Channel, World Service, BBC R2 & R4 programmes) and I shall appear in a Sky series in Spring 2023.

Having led and supported community archaeology projects in a hands-on way (hence ‘The Muddy Archaeologist’), I went on to dig at major sites in the UK and Europe.

During Covid, I created my ever-growing series of The Muddy Archaeologist Online Courses (https://muddyarchaeologist.Thinkific.com).
